It’s that time of year again— the stretch between Christmas and New Year’s when we all start thinking about our goals and aspirations for the coming year. Here at Rise, we love the energy and momentum that comes with a fresh start. But as wellness practitioners who work with busy professionals and active families every day, we also know that lasting change requires more than just enthusiasm and good intentions.

Why Most Resolutions Don't Stick
Let’s be honest: we’ve all been there. January 1st arrives, and we’re ready to transform every aspect of our lives overnight. We’re going to work out every day, meal prep like a pro, meditate for an hour each morning, and finally master that work-life balance we’ve been chasing.
But by February, reality sets in. Our perfectly crafted routines start to crack under the pressure of real life—sick kids, busy work schedules, and the general chaos that comes with being a human in today’s world.
A Different Approach For 2025
Instead of the traditional “new year, new you” mentality, we’d like to propose a more sustainable approach. Here’s how we guide our Rise community to set resolutions that actually stick:
START WITH WHAT’S WORKING
Before adding anything new to your plate, take inventory of what’s already going well. Are you consistent with your chiropractic appointments? Great! Do you prioritize family dinner most nights? Wonderful! Build on these existing healthy habits rather than trying to overhaul your entire lifestyle.
CHOOSE ONE FOCUS AREA
While it’s tempting to transform everything at once, we’ve found that our most successful practice members focus on one main area at a time. Whether it’s improving sleep quality, incorporating more movement, or establishing a consistent morning routine, pick the one thing that will have the biggest positive impact on your life.
BREAK IT DOWN
Let’s say your goal is to “move more” in 2025. Instead of jumping straight into an intense 6-day-a-week workout routine, try this progressive approach:
– **Month 1:** Add a 10-minute walk after lunch three days per week
– **Month 2:** Increase to 15 minutes and add a fourth day
– **Month 3:** Try a new movement activity (yoga, strength training, etc.) once a week
MAKE IT REALISTIC
As much as we love seeing before and after transformations on social media, real, lasting change usually looks more like small, consistent steps forward (with occasional steps back). When setting your goals, ask yourself:
– Does this fit into my current lifestyle?
– Can I maintain this during busy seasons?
– Does this align with my family’s schedule and needs?
– Am I being kind to myself with these expectations?
BUILD IN SUPPORT
Change is always easier with support. Whether it’s:
– Working with our team to ensure your body is functioning optimally
– Having Jay create a sustainable nutrition plan that works for your lifestyle
– Finding an accountability partner in the Rise community
– Sharing your goals with family members who can support your journey
Remember, you don’t have to do this alone.
Make Your Goals
As you think about your goals for 2025, we encourage you to:
- Be realistic about your current season of life
- Focus on progress over perfection
- Choose sustainable changes over quick fixes
- Build on your existing healthy habits
- Remember that small, consistent steps add up to big changes
