Filtered Water: What's the Hype?

Living in the United States (unless you’re in Flint, Michigan), it is easy to take clean water for granted. Compared to the rest of the world, we’re lucky when it comes to the availability of our water. However, just beause our water gets processed through treatment plants and it is generally easy for us to acquire, that doesn’t mean that we’re getting the best quality of water.

What's In Our Tap Water?

Our drinking water goes through a filtration process before it ever gets to our sinks. Throughout that process, chemicals like chlorine are added to the water to help the water be suitable and safe enough to drink. Even after the clean water process that we have here in the US, there can still be traces of chemicals such as lead, mercury, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides found in our tap water.

If you’re in a pinch, drinking tap water surely won’t kill you. But on a day to day basis, it would not be my preference not to consume all those chemicals. Exposure to these chemicals on a regular basis can be harsh on our bodies. And especially harsh to our organs that process the chemicals that our body interacts with –liver, kidneys, bladder, skin, and intestines.

What we do Instead

A few years ago, Jay and I discover LARQ. What first drew us to LARQ was the non-toxic self cleaning mechanism in the water bottle. We were pretty guilty of filling our Yeti with water for the week and using it for several days before it ever got washed (gross!).

The UV light cleaning mechanism also called their PureVis Technology claims to be effective enough to clean the bacteria out of water from a stream or even in Mexico, making it clean and safe enough for you to drink. While I haven’t tested this out, I can say that the UV cleaning light alone drastically improves the taste of my water and makes my bottle feel a whole lot cleaner. I have used it plenty of times after filling my water bottle up in airports or hotels to find that after cleaning the water, it tastes clean and not at all like tap water. Which for picky water drinkers like myself, this is a big deal.

LARQ also has a filter on their water bottles and pitchers which helps to eliminate lead, chlorine, PFAS and more. For all of those out there who like to drink out of a straw, like me, this is my preferred water bottle option while on the go.

At home, we utilize the LAQR pitcher which combines their PureVis and Nano Zero technology so that we get the best of both worlds. The LARQ app is incredibly helpful at letting us know how much water we’ve been consuming, how much plastic we’re saving, and when it is time to replace our filter.

Drinking clean water has become somewhat of a trend and I’m fully supportive of it. Not only because filtered water tastes better but because of the health benefits of it too.

There are so many choices when you go to select your water filtration system. And personally, if money were no object, I’d likely consider a reverse osmosis system for my house. I think they provide the best option for clean water throughout your whole home. But the downside is that they cost a small fortune.

But if you’re looking for a more budget friendly option that can give you clean water in the home and on the go, LARQ is my top recommendation.
