January & February

When we think of fruit during these months, it is the season for citrus. Think- lemons, grapefruit, and oranges.

When we look at vegetables think of Root Vegetables like beets, turnips and celery root. Sweet potatoes are also great- they tend to be in season all year long but are great to add color to your plate.

Winter Green Vegetables are also in season this time of year. That includes cabbage, kale, collards, broccoli, cauliflower, and arugula.

Winter Squash is also great and can be incorporated into many different dishes. Some of my favorite include butternut and corn squash.

March & April

Produce to look for in March and April includes a lot of vegetables. These include asparagus, artichokes, leeks, onion, garlic broccoli, arugula, mustard greens spinach + chard, and fennel. All of these are great to add to your dishes or even have as stand alone side dishes.

May

As the weather starts to get warmer and we head into spring, more fruit starts to come in season. Look for strawberries, rhubarb, pineapple, asparagus, mushrooms, carrots, peas, leeks, and artichokes.

June

Fruits and summer veggies are in FULL SWING June through the next few months, so enjoy. Look for cherries, apricots, blueberries, pineapples, mangos, papaya, zucchini, cucumber, peppers, corn, lettuce, radish, carrots, and cauliflower.

July

Watermelon

July looks similar to June. This is a great month for those of you who have a garden at home. Zucchini, tomato, cucumber, corn, blueberries, apricots, nectarines, plums, and watermelons are at the peak of their season this time of year.

August

Plums

The summer produce is still around, but the fall produce is starting to make it’s entrance. Look for tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, corn, blackberries, basil, plums, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants, okra, and green beans. Like other months, the foods in season this month are great to eat on their own or combine into dishes.

September & October

squash and pumpkins

Fall is here! We still have some of the summer produce in season like tomatoes, cucumbers, summer squash and green beans. But fall produce is making its entrance. Look for eggplant, apples, green chilies, grapes, figs, pears, pumpkin, spaghetti squash, beets, and fingerling potatoes.

November & December

The holidays are here! The foods in season this time of year are your warmer foods and as we get closer to the new year, citrus starts to become in season again. Look for pomegranates, cranberries, pears, apples, brussle sprouts, squash, mushrooms, nuts- like walnuts, almonds, and pecans. Winter fruits like Oranges and lemons start to come back in season. And you can also find mushrooms, beets, kale and cauliflower in season as well. These are great things to include in your day to day eating as well as your holiday cooking.

Keep in mind that seasonal produce varies by region. Try to eat local whenever possible and look for produce options through your local farmers markets and grocers. I love to shop at Trader Joes and through Thrive Market
