If you’ve never had a chiropractic adjustment you might not have any idea why someone should go to a chiropractor. Let’s discuss what chiropractic is and if you could benefit from chiropractic care.

What Is Chiropratic?

Chiropractic is a type of integrative medicine that treats and diagnoses neuromusculoskeletal conditions such as neck pain, low back pain, headaches, and more. Chiropractors are trained to identify and treat the cause of one’s symptoms, which separates their treatment from other methods that only address symptoms. While chiropractors are unable to treat and diagnose naturally occurring conditions such as anxiety, ADHD, autism, asthma, bedwetting, digestive disorders, and others, there are many case studies that support chiropractic’s ability to help manage the symptoms of these conditions. The goal of chiropractic care is not just to eliminate the symptoms, but to help find what is ailing the body and treat it through an adjustment that helps enable the body to repair and heal itself.

There are many treatment options out there that can provide temporary relief; pharmaceuticals such as Advil, ice, heat, and stretching. While these are all valid temporary options, chiropractors are driven to find the cause, rather than putting another band-aid over your symptoms. All too often patients who walk into a chiropractors office follow a pattern of experiencing pain, using a quick fix for pain relief such as medication, feeling better temporarily, only to feel more pain again over time, take another pill, and so on and so forth for much longer than they should. Some of the benefits of chiropractic are that it is a non-invasive, safe, and effective treatment method that provides a long-term fix, rather than other treatments that don’t address the cause and only provide a temporary fix. Chiropractic care is a great treatment option for people who are looking to treat the cause of their symptoms and ultimately function at their best.

How Chiropractic Works & Who it Helps

The science behind chiropractic care can be complex, but it can be simplified to this: the chiropractic adjustment influences the nervous system which promotes healing within the body in order to get rid of symptoms and allow the body to function optimally. With that being said, it is hard to imagine anyone who wouldn’t benefit from some form of chiropractic care as everyone should be able to function optimally. There are hundreds of different techniques that can be utilized to perform an adjustment which is great with the right patient and in the right scenario. However, anytime an adjustment is performed it is done so with the same objective, to promote healing from within the body in order to promote optimum function.

What optimum function looks like may vary from person to person:

  • – For babies it can look like getting longer stretches of sleep, reducing colic, and latching easier during breast feeding.
  • – For kids chiropractic care may help treat an injury from falling off their bike or helping their focus improve in school.
  • – In adults adjustments may help with stress management, enabling proper immune function, and treating low back pain.
  • – With elderly patients chiropractic can help with the symptoms of arthritis, and can improve balance to prevents falls.
  • – In pregnant and postpartum moms chiropractic care can help with the aches and pains that come with the changes that occur in your body during this season of life.
